Nebraskan's avoid "Gay Days" Band Trip
Some Nebraska Families Pull Kids From Orlando 'Gay Days' Band Trip (story).
They are from Nebraska.... what'd you expect? All I can say is, when I was traveling from California to Connecticut, I wasted no time getting across "middle America". Their attitudes scare me.

As a gay woman, I'm glad they aren't going. I would rather not be exposed to their hatred.
I posted the same article on my livejournal and this is a comment I received.. thought you'd all like to read it here also...
"Shelly Rodehorst of Kearney is among those who says she will not expose her children to homosexual behavior. She believes homosexuality is morally wrong."
She and the other parents are dealing with homosexuality the wrong way. If they believe it is morally wrong, they need to TALK with their children about it and give reasons why they think it is wrong. That is the correct way to pass on morals to children.
These kids are high schoolers, not three year olds! There is no need to shield them from homosexual activities; a simple, mature conversation about the issue will do.
"Hey Billy. I'm sure by now you know what homosexuality is, and I want to tell you why it is wrong. Blah. Blah Blah. The reason why I'm telling you all this is because you will meet these kinds of people in your life. You might even see some homosexual things happening during the Orlando trip because of Gay Days. Blah. Blah. Blah. Just be aware of these things my son."
Exposure to the real world will help increase the children's awareness so that when they are out on their own, they know how to cope with what the real world has to offer. Homosexuality is a part of the real world.
By hiding their children from what they deem is wrong, parents like Shelley Rodehorst teach ignorance, not morals or truths. It's because of these parents that we have ignorant people in this world, ignorant to the realities of life.
And besides - one trip to Orlando with gays celebrating Gay Days is not going to change someones sexual orientation.
"I swear my son was straight until he went on that damn band trip to Orlando. Gay Days turned him GAY!!!"
Please.
*shakes head* People fear what they don't know... it's sad really... my moms side of the family is from Nebraska.. i have yet to come out to them...
