One thing I've noticed about people in general is that, people who have very bigoted attitudes towards gay people will change those attitudes when someone they know and love turns out to be gay. I've seen it happen time and time again. It has even happened with my friends and family.
At the very least, you know who your friends are right away. That's why I think it's so important that people come out. There is so much at stake now. I'm convinced that every single family in America has at least one person in it who is gay or lesbian. And most of the time, no one knows it because we are so closeted. It's a shame for us as a community because we all suffer because of it. It's more of a shame for the families who, because of their attitudes, will never really know their children.
I'm glad to see that you are open with your family. Perhaps the article is their way of trying to understand.
I really liked the story so far. I'm looking forward to the conclusion.
Incidentally, I had mentioned the article to Albert Sunday morning before we went to meet my family that lives in the area. It was the first time they’d met him, or been with me when we all knew that we all knew I was gay; and it went really well. After we left, Albert pointed out that the he noticed that the Post was sitting on the coffee table with that story right there on the cover. An interesting little confluence.

Yes! Interesting the change of perspective when "them" and "those" become "we", "us", "friend Bill" or "Uncle Alan", etc.
Eric, I think someone is looking over you. :)
