The reality of politics today

| | Comments (4)

It’s amazing what people are doing in an effort to keep people from voting. I read this off The Blue Lemur. It would seem that the Republicans will stop at nothing to get their way.

I hate to even ask the question, but if Bush is re-elected, how will we ever know that his victory was real?

As campaigns across the country roll towards their bitter end, politics have grown ever-dirtier, with two flyers raising red flags of racism, RAW STORY has found. Both benefit the Republican Party, though one is unattributed.

In Wisconsin, flyers purporting to be from the “Milwaukee Black Voters League”, (image below) erroneously tell African Americans they can’t vote in the presidential election if anyone in their family has even been found guilty of a crime. An image of the flyer is reproduced below.

I love it when people leave comments who disagree with my views. It stirs discussion and that can lead to change just by making people stop and THINK. I wish you had said why you left the United States. I’m at a bit of a loss to address YOUR issues since you stated, “which I shall not disclose”. It sounds as if you need to come out of the closet in your own way. And if you can't disclose why you moved to a new country, how much of a "paradise" can it really be? You have some issues you haven’t addressed. Otherwise, why not disclose them? At any rate, I’ll try to address your comments….

First off this:

Quite frankly, your blog makes me sick because you continue to cry and take no action. America=$$, people like you will continue to make America what it is because you have found a comfort zone that you can tolerate, yet it's not paradise for you and your partner's lifestyle. Hit 'em where it hurts and leave - you bitch and moan, pay taxes and vote.....and you both are fucking foolish because NOTHING will change with you continuing to funnel money into the American piggy bank. Do you REALLY think the far left involved in American government really cares about minorities and gay people?

Wow… where to start?

A couple of points I’d like to make:
1) If my blog makes you sick, please stop coming to it and reading it! I really don’t want you to be sick.

2) You greatly underestimate the power of bitching and moaning. As you say…

Go ahead, continue to bitch and moan. I'm in paradise and surrounded with beauty while people like you continue to sulk and "just get by." Go ahead, live a life of frustration; continue to be consumed by lies. It's YOUR choice.

We are hardly just getting by. We are actually doing quite well. However, because of my "bitching and moaning", my partner and I can now get health benefits from either of our employers. It didn't used to be this way for us, but because I bitched and moaned about it, they started to understand our issues. It's the same thing with hate crime legislation that now exists here in Connecticut. And, we now have civil unions and within a 5 year period, I expect we will have full marriage. And all of this from "bitching and moaning." WORDS ARE POWERFUL!

BITCHING AND MOANING = ACTIVISM!

You may think that we are giving in. You may think that the only way to "fight fire with fire" is with a Molotov cocktail, but let me tell you, words (again, bitching and moaning) are more powerful than the action of hatred, destruction, and violence. Wars have been started and ended with WORDS.

It's not just a gay issue and I AS A HUMAN BEING am tired of poor gay people or poor black and indigenous Americans. You boycott by getting out and going to a country who will adhere to your wishes.

I don't know what your issues with America are precisely and I don't know where you went to find "paradise". Every single country in this world of ours will have an issue with some people. What are those people to do? Leave when the going gets tough, or stay and try to make things better? It's vary hard for me to believe that in this paradise that you live in, that there's not at least one thing that sucks for you. What are you going to do, leave?

When all the antigay marriage amendments were being passed a few years ago, it's true, we did consider leaving the U.S. for Canada. But then I got pissed off. I decided that some very vocal people had stolen my country. I want it back. And I'll stay and fight for it. You may think my fight is in vain, but here's a few facts I'd like to point out:

1) In 1998, a Gallup poll found that only 33% of Americans thought that homosexual relations between consenting adults should be legal. By 2007, that figure had risen to 59%.

2) Growing acceptance of homosexuality means a decline in social stigma associated with same-sex relationships, and a consequent shift in the politics of coming out.

3) Society is beginning to say that being gay is not such a big deal. (read more)

Why the shift? You got it, "bitching and moaning", otherwise known as "activism".

You are right about one thing, we are pouring our money into a society where many just don't care for us so much. But this is our society and country also. Perhaps it's not so much US who need to deal with the fact that we aren't yet fully equal. Perhaps it is THEM who need to deal with the fact that we aren't going anywhere. They need to deal with that.

This is a huge problem for them because today in America, it's getting more and more difficult to find someone who doesn't know, or who isn't related to someone who is gay. That's a personal connection. That makes all the difference in the world. Suddenly, you aren't discriminating against someone you don't know. You could be discriminating against your brother.

Go ahead, live a life of frustration; continue to be consumed by lies. It's YOUR choice.

Actually, to be very honest with you, I'm not living a life of frustration at all. I think I used too. But right now is the happiest and best time of my life. It's exciting, I have so many interests that it's hard to manage them all. For me, the sky is the limit!

Almost sounds like... paradise. :-)

I'm not gay. However, I can empathize with the both of you; in MY way which I shall not disclose.

I learned early on you have to fight fire with fire. People who are gay do not fight fire with fire, much akin to racisim not just in America, but worldwide.

If you feel that strongly for each other, you either choose to stay in America, close to your immediate families and friends who either lend you support; or leave to find your own way as adults. You closed the deal in your final sentence of your blog. So why do you continue to be a part of a country who generally speaking, boycotts the gay lifestyle? Your answer should be boycott America!

Let me outline: America needs people for its government and society to succeed. People obviously is the fuel for any economy. Take away people, and dollars disappear. America, mind you is capitalistic and becoming more materialistic. Persons such as I, gays and other "deemed" or maybe doomed minorities who stay in an imperialistic environment only fuels the fight against themselves. YOU, my friend add tax dollars to your enemy everyday by awakening from a peaceful slumber and going to that place for breakfast or that twilight movie together.

Friend, you hurt yourselves by fighting a losing battle by staying in America. You are taxed everyday, giving gasoline to an engine housed in a vehicle for you to drive, but in a car that you'd rather not travel in; wheels spinning but going nowhere. You have no gripe if you stay in America. Boycott it by leaving and stop spending your hard earned cashflow in taxes to a country who you feel won't heed your call.

I left America for a society that fits my lifestyle when I was 20. I am happy. I don't pay American taxes - you do. I boycotted - you seem steadfast in a fight which daily will cost gay Americans millions and believe and invest in a democracy that will continue its success because of people like you feeding it dollars and believing that the upper 2% will eventually care about its gay population. Yet, you and your partner continue to choose to cohabitate together in a country who won't hear your views and never will.

It's not just a gay issue and I AS A HUMAN BEING am tired of poor gay people or poor black and indigenous Americans. You boycott by getting out and going to a country who will adhere to your wishes.

Quite frankly, your blog makes me sick because you continue to cry and take no action. Do you REALLY think the far left involved in American government really cares about minorities and gay people? They feed feeble minds such as yours for money and votes. Thank the Higher Power I found my paradise abroad. I would hate to be brainwashed like the rest of my former American counterparts - very similar to you.

Go ahead, continue to bitch and moan. I'm in paradise and surrounded with beauty while people like you continue to sulk and "just get by." Go ahead, live a life of frustration; continue to be consumed by lies. It's YOUR choice.

And the South Carolina Democratic Party has a copy of the letter at http://www.scdp.org/press/voterletter.jpg.

They seem to be doing the same thing in South Carolina. Here's a link to an article in The State.
