A sample of the mail I receive

This particular entry was made to my guest book (since removed). Instead of just removing it, I thought that you might like to see some of the 5-10 hate messages I get in any given week.

It’s indicative of the kind of prejudice that is out there in 2004.

Drama queens are really frigging boring, be it with balls or clits, drama queens cost the world too much frigging energy.

you try to tilt the axis of the world because you’re anatomically inept? Can’t be happy with one ‘hole’ but have to have the other ‘hole’?

What raving, rancid ego is it that seeks to destroy the given world for the sake of their bloody god da*n orgasm.

And don’t give me bilge about relationship - there goes your drama queen nature. Have to play house, have to pretend to be one of those breeders that you revile.

Well, by your choice you are not and that was fine as long as you imposed your choices on no one but those so inclined. But now you come after my world just so you can get your rocks off??? Give me a freaking break. No way dude, no way.

This is a fight you will regret. The election you so abhor is indicative of the will of your nation and sweetheart, Canada is just a northern kiss away.

Please, take your narcissist cant and skank a**hole out of America. She requires whole people, not neurotic self absorbed cowards.

That’s appalling. Worse, it’s scary. And more than just in the context of the message, but in how strangely worded as well.

I have heard gays being described as “sick” in reference to their emotional, or mental state of mind, and as an explanation for their sexual preference. The person who authored this letter, however, shows more emotional and/or mental instability than any gay person I have ever met.

How sad, Bill that you are subjected to that many hate mails a week. I had no idea. I know little about you, but I do know you are an intelligent, witty, and very likable person. That people judge you based on your sexuality alone is just… barbaric.

There will ALWAYS be people like that! The Internet simply allows them to express themselves annonymously.

I do know for example that all jewish web sites get their share of antisemitic hate mail. It doesn't mean anything.

The good news here is that this site is exposed to enough people to have these (one in a thousand?) freaks actually write back.

Dan

It's awful that someone would write something like that - it makes me sick to my stomach. It comes as no surprise, however, that the type of person who would write something like that is not well educated enough to spell "narcissistic" correctly.

Well.... With 450,000 hits that this site has received so far this month, it's no surprise that I'm going to attract some weirdos. It goes with the territory of being different, I suppose.

I am sorry that I may have made some of you sick. I am used to getting these, mostly in my email, but occasionally in a comment or guest book entry.

I had a comment from a woman in Montana a few days ago that was so hateful that I couldn't post it (I won't go into detail about what she wanted the government to do to homosexuals, but it bordered on what they used to do to witches. You can use your imagination from there). Fortunately, my spam filter that I have for comments thought that I might want to moderate the comment before posting it. I deleted the comment and spared you all from ever seeing it.

I try to offer both points of view. I don't mind people posting opposing views to my own, as long as they are thoughtful points of view that are sincere and honest. When they start getting into the area of hate, they don't get posted.

Jeff,

How many of those people who describe gays as being "sick" actually know any gay people, either as acquaintances or relatives? I would bet, very few.

You assume correctly, Bill. The people I know who have said gays are "sick" have very little contact with them if any contact at all.

I had a physiological psychology class a number of years ago, and one night the correlation between homosexuality and the hypothalamus was being discussed. I remember someone in the class categorically denying that such a theory could possibly be true because it didn’t align with his religious beliefs. He was adamant that homosexuals were “sick people, and lacking in basic morals.” He honestly hated gay people, and was proud to say so in a classroom full of people. I was outraged, and asked him how he could rationalize his hate in a religion that was supposed to be based on brotherly love. Of course his response was that brotherly love extended only to those who followed what he believed to be God’s plan.

I thank God everyday that I have the parents that I do. They not once taught me to hate anyone. As I grew up it never even occurred to me that homosexuals were a people to be shunned or ostracized. To me they were just normal people with exceptionally good taste in clothing, and an innate ability to properly accessorize. :)

Jeff,

Funny, I always blamed me anterior hypothalamus for me being gay. Damn thing!! ;-) And then I blamed God. And then Tammy Faye Baker (don't ask). And then my parents. And when there was no blame left to go around, I said, "Well hell! I might as well stop feeling sorry for myself and make the best of this." So I found a boyfriend. It was supposed to last anywhere from 2 nights to 3 months, according to the religious folks who said that all we homosexuals did was to sleep around, but it ended up lasting almost 30 years. Who knew?!?

I have been soured by religion. I don't go to church anymore because quite frankly, I don't feel welcome and some of the people that go there quite honestly scare me. I don't like sitting in church and having some guy across the pew glare at me like he wants to tear me limb to limb, all the while we are singing hymns or listening to a sermon about how God loves us ALL. It's all so hypocritical to me. I personally believe in God and I honestly know how God feels about me (yes, it's a long story that I won't bore you with).

I have been told that I'm a "flashy" dresser. I love color, what can I say. And if I ever come back as a bird, I will definitely be a male peacock! Have you seen Carson on Queer Eye for the Straight Guy? Well, I'm just a couple of notches down from him in terms of how "gay" I appear (so I've been told). But, I don't think I'm flamboyant. I'm just... me.

And boy... can I ever accessorize!! :)

The division now (as it always has been) is between the jesus/mohammed freaks and the civilized world.

I had the oppurtunity to tell christians that I f*cked Jesus up the ass and he loved it. The look on their faces is priceless! I'm not trying to create a fake "look at me I'm just a normal guy who happened to be gay" image. I'm happy to get in their faces and degrade their worthless stupid symbols.

Dan

Bill,

Like mentioned before, the internet lets people bitch when they would normally keep their mouths shut. I have had countless annonymous post on my blog, and all of them were negative. Not one post with a name and valid email address was anything close to the idiocy of the people who shouldn't have access to air to breathe, let alone a venue in which to share their warpped (and in this case, quite Freudian) hate. I can't even be offended by these kinds of idiots, anymore. I have heard the same thing from them time after time. It's old. People this proud of their f****** ignorance need to be taken out of the gene pool.

Yes I suppose this idiot vote for Bush and supports "Family Values". Probably even labels themselves a "Christian".

As for the comment about America.. Did they read the whole part about the land of the free?

Miss Thang sure does seem to be aware of being a "Drama Queen" wonder if girlfriend realizes what a drama queen she is?

Hey great work, guys. I just wanted to add that Bill is right to be sick enough of these right-wing hypocrites to not even get offended by them any more . I dont waste much time calling them "evil fucks" or "stupid idiots" for their gay bashing "moral" crusading, Id rather unite with my LGBT brothers and sisters and agree that theyre all alot of "evil stupid idiot fucks" and be on with it. Besides , all you can really do for a lot like the Right Elite is pity them, theyre obviously sad enough that they have to pick on some one that they belive weaker and and less inclined toward violence , so yeah i just kind of feel sorry for them. In alot of cases, the anti-gay religious right seem to know a great deal about homosexuality and the sexual practices of gay men, in fact they know too much for some one whos so damned opposed, I tell people this all the time but most of them are too afraid of their own masculinity ( or feminimity in some cases) so they dismiss me and continue to be pricks and its always a classic closet case cover up, too. Well just thought Id chime in while Im here, take care, guys, Jim
