My Thoughts Exactly
I like this guy. I’ve said the same thing before. If we are going to have second class rights, we should have second class taxes as well.
Let’s add an amendment that makes it illegal to accept taxes from gays and lesbians and ignore them in earnest on all of their issues thereafter.
This biggest argument against gay marriage typically comes from conservative Christians who say this is a Christian country founded on Christian principals.
Using this reasoning, they say they should be able to glue a copy of the Ten Commandments anywhere they want. They say they should be able to mandate prayer anywhere they want.
They want to mandate that God remain in the Pledge of Allegiance, even though the writer of the pledge never intended it to be there in the first place. They want everyone forced to say the pledge despite any objections, including those that might come from other Christians.
And then, of course, there is the fight to ban gay marriage. If you want to change the Constitution to accomplish this, go ahead. But as you’re writing, make sure you also add:
“. . . and because the opinions, needs and rights of gays and lesbians do not matter in America; and because this is a Christian country founded on Christian principles; and as long as we’re at it, anyone, including but not limited to atheists, agnostics, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists and unsaved Jews also disagreeing with this assessment, may either leave America at government expense or stay and be exempt from paying the taxes that would have mandated their legitimate expectation to equal rights and representation in all levels of government.”
How’s that for some long-winded legalese?
It’s funny how some of our conservative leaders would allow a gay firefighter to run into their burning homes to save their lives or possessions, but won’t allow him to exchange a vow of love with someone.
It’s amazing how there are lesbian doctors out there trying to cure cancer, but society won’t allow them to marry in accordance with their personal religious beliefs.
Gays and lesbians are teachers, lawyers, caregivers, entertainers and police officers. And yet for all of their contributions, they are still discriminated against. (source)

I couldn't agree more. You know how they make it affordable for the insurance companies to be able to offer married folks those "family" benefits that only come from being the "spouse"?
They tax the crap out of those "single" folks out there who aren't "married". That's people like you and me, DJ.
Think about it too much, and you'll get really pissed off, because it's not like it's a secret. The legislators who pass these awful laws keeping us from having marriage AND civil unions AND any "equivalent" or "approximation" to marriage, know exactly what they are doing. They want people like us from being able to have access to those benefits AND they want us to pay for those benefits THAT WE CAN'T HAVE!
I view it as a form of slavery.
It's funny. I've been thinking the same thing for awhile. Perhaps they can compute the amount of money I or my partner will lose with survivors benefits from Social Security, plus the amount that I'm taxed on every year for partner benefits, plus the amount that I had to pay for a lawyer to get the same protections as someone who is married, etc, etc. then deduct that from my taxes. I think that would be equitable.
