The Scent of a Man

| | Comments (4)

Scientists trying to sniff out biological differences between gay and straight men have found new evidence - in scent.

It turns out that sniffing a chemical from testosterone, the male sex hormone, causes a response in the sexual area of gay men’s brains, just as it does in the brains of straight women, but not in the brains of straight men.

“It is one more piece of evidence ... that is showing that sexual orientation is not all learned,” said Sandra Witelson, an expert on brain anatomy and sexual orientation at the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine at McMaster University in Ontario, Canada.

Witelson, who was not part of the research team that conducted the study, said the findings show a biological involvement in sexual orientation. (source)

I don’t know. I think I respond better to the smell of Armani than I do the smell of men.

I think it starts at childhood, when little boys are told that they must play with toy guns and little girls are told they must play with baby dolls, they may sneek and play with there sisters dolls when they are alone and maybe even play dressup, but boys that play with dolls are sissys,so when they grow up they feel threatened by us because if they are seen assoctiating with gay people and having the same views as us that will make them gay,so i think it is learned behavior, when people see us as normal and not as sissy boys then maybe things will change.

All i know that some of my straight female friends love gay men, they want straight men to behave like gay men,but that will never happen, they tell me that gay men are perfect,if a man is wearing stetson that is all it takes for me,i have never been able to tell gay men from straight men,but when it comes to women i can tell right away if they are gay or not,i guess my gay radar isnt up to full speed yet,i believe the moon and stars have alot to do with love,i am waiting for my prince,i have lowered my standards alittle over the years,if he is breathing and has a good job then he has a chance with me.

"Is there a natural aversion between heterosexual and homosexual men, or women, based upon basic instinct, or cues such as smell?"

I never thought about that. What if scent is one of the reasons that many heterosexual hate gay men?

I always thought it was really really strange for straight men to hate gay men because they found homosexuality "disgusting", then would turn around and get all turned on by two women having sex. That never made sense to me. If homosexuality was the turn off, then the two women should have turned them off just as much.

If the scent of a man is different in gay and straight men, obviously the next question is whether women respond to the scent of a man differently who is gay or heterosexual. Instinctively, do women sense gender identification, or sexual orientation of males?

Admittedly, an interesting question, and one worthy of scrutiny, since nature is known for its efficiency in most other aspects.

If conclusions about pheromones among men are correct, might they also be correct among women, where the brains of gay and straight women respond differently to each other?

Is there a natural aversion between heterosexual and homosexual men, or women, based upon basic instinct, or cues such as smell?
