Texas Gov. To Sign Anti-Gay Marriage Measure At Christian School

| | Comments (2)

Texas Gov. Rick Perry on Sunday will sign legislation sending to voters this fall a proposed amendment to the state Constitution to ban same-sex marriage.

Rather than putting his name to the bill in his office Perry has decided to sign the document at Calvary Christian Academy in Forth Worth.

The decision has angered moderates in the state who say the governor is blurring the line separating church and state.

“As I recall, Jesus threw the money changers out of the temple, and I wonder how long it will be before people of faith get fed up with opportunistic political campaigning in their houses of worship,” said Kathy Miller, president of the Texas Freedom Network.

Perry counters that the church school is the appropriate venue for “values-related issues.” (source)

What can I say? Governor Perry is a man after President Bush’s heart. They are right from the same mold.

I think it’s very telling about the character of this governor. He wears the power of the governorship on one sleeve and the Christian Right on the other sleeve. I wonder if he can really tell where one ends and the other begins?

Rumor has it that Perry is a self-hating closeted mo. I have it from good sources that he had a thing with a male intern at the governor's office a few years back. And what's new, he's all about grandstanding. When he ran for Lt. Governor, he talked about his hispanic heritage. But lo and behold, he didn't speak a word of Spanish and started taking lessons during the campaign. As a Texan, I'm ashamed of him more so than the Dixie Chicks are ashamed of Bush.

At the time of the American Revolution, Christian churches supported the belief that God conferred the right to rule on kings. This was believed to be the "natural order" and it was extremely radical to oppose the concept of monarchal government and the hereditary rights of royalty.

Most people believed that the Bible supported this completely. (Monarchies are the only form of government mentioned in the scriptures.)

We have lost sight of just how truly radical our Founding Fathers' concept of democratic goverment was in their time. It is a system that was derived from that of PAGANS -- the ancient Greeks. It was NOT supported by the Christian religions of the time.

This is the reason why it was important to separate church and state. If it were left up to ministers and priests, the U.S. would have had a KING.
