Iran Executes Two Gay Teens In Public Hanging

| | Comments (8)

This is a tough entry to make, but I feel I have to do it so that the deaths of these two gay teenagers are not forgotten.

It astonishes me the savagery in our world today. These two teenagers were caught having sex, an act punishable by death in Iran. Death can be carried out one of four ways; being hanged, stoned, halved by a sword, or dropped from the highest perch. The accused can make the choice.

According to Article 152, if two men not related by blood are discovered naked under one cover without good reason, both will be punished at a judge‘s discretion. Gay teens (Article 144) are also punished at a judge‘s discretion. Rubbing one‘s penis between the thighs without penetration (tafheed) shall be punished by 100 lashes for each offender. This act, known to the English-speaking world as ‘frottage,’ is punishable by death if the ‘offender’ is a non-Muslim. If frottage is thrice repeated and penalty-lashes have failed to stop such repetitions, upon the fourth ‘offense‘ both men will be put to death. According to Article 156, a person who repents and confesses his gay behavior prior to his identification by four witnesses, may be pardoned. (source)

Further discussion is given here.

I have reluctantly posted the photos of this act. The executions took place on July 19.

And this is a country that we want better relations with. What does that say of us? These people are barbarians.

I agree Fiona. I came across this bit of information from February, 2005, where Great Britain deported a gay man back to his violently homophobic homeland of Algeria. You can read about it here.

I really did not realise that Britain was deporting people who were gay to almost certain death. The subject of asylum seekers is a big, much talked about subject in this country. Most British people feel the we are too accomodating when it comes to asylum seekers. Only today I read in the paper that one of last weeks bombers was an asylum seeker living off benifits whilst all the time planning to kill us.I am not sure of the policy within USA but it needs an overhaul here if we are sending back individuals who are gay to be murdered whilst welcomming terrorists with open arms. There is alot the government keep from the man on the street and I know that most people would be horrified at what happened to those two lads in Iran. It doesn't matter if they were 16 or 62 it is never right to take a life especially because someone is gay that's murdrer in the 1st degree.

Here in the United States, we will not give asylum to gay people in other countries, even though we know that there is a high probability that they will be killed when they return. Britain is the same way. There are many documented cases where the two countries have denied asylum to gay people, only to have them deported back to their country. Within days in some cases, we hear that they were executed.

But you see, when we do this, WE are not really the ones doing this, right? After all, all we did was to deny them a place to stay. When they got back, their country put them to death - we never killed them.

It's all very convenient, isn't it? Just another, more sterile way, to eliminate those people who our governments feel are less than human.

What is the world comming to? It sadens me so much to think that here we are in 2005 and this sort of thing is still going on in the world. I live in England and I will certainly be contacting my MP as Britain too wishes to form stronger links with Iran. I worked as a nurse for 20 years and met a Dr from Yeman who enjoyed stoning gay men to death on fridays after prayer. He felt he was pleasing god and was honered to often throw the first stone. This was an educated, inteligent man who had chosen to dedicate his life to saving others through his work.I can still not understand how any person can do such a thing to another. I have fantastic gay friends and I feel sick and scared when I think, had they been unlucky enough to have been born in such countries thay would have faced the same fate. We need our governments to come together to protest about this and as human beings we all need to try and teach tolerance, love and acceptance.

This is so sad,why does god allow people to be treated like this,i once heard if you are caught stealing they chop off your hand,so why should this surprise me,the part i dont like is that i think if most americans had a choice it could be us with the rope around our neck.
