It amazes me how stupid some people are. It is 2005, and many people still think that being homosexual and being a pedophile are the same damn thing.
Personally, I can’t stand the Catholic Church. But I will tell you this, I’m personally getting just a little pissed off at being lumped in with pedophiles just because I’m gay. I don’t plan on being a priest and Lord knows, I have no plans of giving up sex. But it’s the principle of the thing.
I suppose if people really think that their adolescent boys are going to be safer excluding gay priests, then they can go ahead and exclude them. Just don’t complain when it doesn’t work. Gay priests and priests who are pedophiles are not the same thing.
Pope John Paul II called us “intrinsically disordered”. What is really “intrinsically disordered”? Is it being an openly gay person who is proud of ALL of his/her achievements, or, being a church who moves priests from one location to the next knowing full well that they are molesting children, in an effort to keep them from being caught and to keep their little secret? THEN, they turn around and try to point the finger at ALL GAY PRIESTS and say, “YOU!!! YOU ARE THE PROBLEM!” That sounds pretty disordered to me.
All of that being said, what is the attraction to staying with the Catholic Church if you are gay? It’s as if you are saying, “Yes, please bash me more so I can have even more self-loathing for myself and feel more worthless. Thank you Lord!”
Experts on sex offenders say there is no credible evidence that homosexuals are more likely than heterosexuals to abuse children, but several church leaders argued that gay clergy were to blame.
Those pushing for a ban on gay priests often cite two Vatican documents that make clear that homosexuals should not be ordained: One issued in 1961 says: “Advancement to religious vows and ordination should be barred to those who are afflicted with evil tendencies to homosexuality or pederasty, since for them the common life and the priestly ministry would constitute serious dangers.” (source)

Neal, a couple of things....
First off, I was never the one who defined myself by the type of sex I have. That was done for me long before I was ever born. Growing up and being called "faggot" all the time and never letting it be forgotten that I am a "sexual deviant" (and told that to my face and being beaten for that) was done TO ME, by society, not done BY ME. If you have an issue with that, you are talking to the wrong person. You are right, it is dehumanizing. Welcome to my world!
Second, I honestly don't give a rats ass about the Catholic Church's teachings on homosexuality, or what they feel about me. I think they have made it abundantly clear how they feel about people like me by referring to me as "intrinsically disordered" (yes, more dehumanization). I know you don't honestly care about my opinion of the Catholic Church. They are the most corrupt church I know of today.
They shift around priests that THEY KNOW ARE PEDOPHILES, just to hide their tracks, all the while knowing that these sexual predators are going to continue abusing children where ever they are sent. THEY DID THIS! Now, how does my not "understanding of the Church's teachings on homosexuality" change that?
And if that's not bad enough, they turn right around and try to pin these crimes on gay priests (hey what do you know, THEY are also dehumanizing these priests for a) "labeling" them as gay, and b) suggesting that gay = being a pedophile).
The Church's attempt to get rid of gay priests to get rid of the pedophilia in the church is one of the biggest lies they have come up with - lately. They need to clean house alright, from the top down - starting with the Pope.
My "heart and mind" are "open". You just don't like what they are saying.
Your comments show a lack of understanding of the Church's teachings on homosexuality. Remember that the Church believes that sex can only be shared between a married man and woman. Homosexuals cannot marry validly in the Church, therefore they fornicate, which is a sin for heterosexuals as well. Further, same-sex attraction is counter to the natural order of things, as it is natural for a man and woman to engage in sex and reproduce. The Church views homosexuality as disordered because it is not in accord with natural law.
I find it interesting that we have gotten to the point where we define people by the type of sex they like to have. Labelling someone a homosexual, or gay, is summing up their identity in their sexual conduct. That is dehumanizing, and it makes it easier for people to view one another as mere objects instead of children of God.
Direct your ire towards those who have propagated this false view about sexuality instead of toward the Catholic Church, which has been consistently on message for 2000 years.
May God open your heart and mind.
The church did the same thing to blacks as they are trying to do to us today,they have to use every tactic they can think up to stop us from having rights,well untill god comes down and tells me i will burn in hell for being gay,then the catholic church can go to hell,and start working toward what should be important like all the people who are going hungry in the world like here in america,but no the pope would rather put on his dress and judge me.
