A National Disgrace
“This is a national disgrace. FEMA has been here three days, yet there is no command and control. We can send massive amounts of aid to tsunami victims, but we can’t bail out the city of New Orleans.” - Terry Ebbert, head of the New Orleans emergency operations.

I am also profoundly angry and depressed over what’s happening in the southeast, although I do feel like ultimately something wonderful will rise from the waterlogged ashes of Katrina. Due to the lack of response of our “elected” officials, I sense the winds of change starting to blow in this country, and for the first time I am actually feeling somewhat optimistic that the long night of the Repuglikkklan thugs may be drawing to an abrupt and well deserved end.
Bush has asked that the American people do whatever they can to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina. (Obviously because he is incapable of mustering any sort of coherent response whatsoever.) Ok, fine. No problem! My suggestion? Stand up and call for his–and his whole fucking administration’s–impeachment!
I agree with jamal,if this had been beverly hills and all of the people where white and rich they would have been rescued before they broke a sweat, there is no excuse for it,all i can say is never depend on a government that is for the rich in a time of need unless you are rich,if you are poor then help will arrive after you are near death or after.
The transcript of the radio interview with New Orleans mayor Ray Nagin was quite revealing in regard to the criminal elements that exist in the city. His discription of hundreds of drug addicts roaming the flooded streets looking for a fix reminded my of one of those Night of the Living Dead movies.
What im surprised that people are forgetting here is that new-orleans has a high rate of crime anyhow. This includes drugs abuse, sexual and violent crime. It is therefore reasonable to assume that some level of crime is occuring in the affected areas, which could either be more or less than currently reported.
The victims of katrina should therefore be on their guard. I would!
The govt. should have acted sooner, and should be doing more now. Im sure that the fact New Orleans is a Southern State and has a high black population has alot to do with it!
