This was sent to me by a frequent reader on this site (thanks Dave!).

Why let homosexuals destroy marriage. Aren't heterosexual Republicans doing a good enough job?

Ronald Reagan - divorced the mother of two of his children to marry Nancy Reagan who bore him a daughter 7 months after the marriage.

Bob Dole - divorced the mother of his child, who had nursed him through the long recovery from his war wounds.

Newt Gingrich - divorced his wife who was dying of cancer

Dick Armey - House Majority Leader - divorced

Sen. Phil Gramm of Texas - divorced

Gov. John Engler of Michigan - divorced

Gov. Pete Wilson of California - divorced

George Will - divorced

Sen. Lauch Faircloth - divorced

Rush Limbaugh - Rush and his current wife Marta have six marriages and four divorces between them.

Rep. Bob Barr of Georgia - Not yet 50 years old, Barr has been married three times. He had the audacity to author and push the "Defense of Act." (The current joke making the rounds on Capitol Hill is "Bob Barr...WHICH marriage are you defending?)

Sen. Alfonse D'Amato of New York - divorced 3 X's

Sen. John Warner of Virginia - divorced (once married to Liz Taylor.)

Gov. George Allen of Virginia - divorced

Henry Kissinger - divorced

Rep. Helen Chenoweth of Idaho - divorced

Sen. John McCain of Arizona - divorced

Rep. John Kasich of Ohio - divorced

Rep. Susan Molinari of New York (Republican National Convention Keynote Speaker) - divorced

Your correspondent Dave did a good service bringing this to your (and our) attention. I'm sure one could find much the same situation here in the UK with many of those who preach about the sanctity of marriage - admittedly we now have a solution to most of the problems you refer to for same-sex partners, even if we can't call it 'marriage'.

Well.... it's a cliché, but "those who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones."

It's very true. If you dig into the personal lives of the people who are against gays entering into the commitment of marriage, you really don't have to dig very deep to see all of this happening.

These divorce records were easy to gather. Under all of that are all the things that you mentioned, Fritz. Every family has them. I'm not judging people who are in those circumstances. My issue is with their ability to turn around and judge people like me when they know very well the mess their own family is in.

Marriage as an institution in this country today is quite worthless. It's ridiculous to hold that up as a standard of what relationships should be. It's not "marriage" that I'm after because I am so far above that standard, it's not even funny. It's honestly not a hard standard to meet.

What I'm after are all the SOCIAL BENEFITS (protections) that have been bestowed to this civil thing we call "marriage". That is equality.

For self-righteous straight people to hold up marriage on a pedestal as something to keep away from gay couples, after they have dragged marriage through the mud, is simply a crock of crap.

I would like to see a list of Republican politicians whose children and grandchildren:

1) Are cohabitating without the benefit of marriage.
2) Have had a child out of wedlock.
3) Who have had children with multiple partners.
4) Have had a child before the age of 18.

You know that the list would include most of them.

Close to 40% of children born in the U.S. are born to unmarried women. One quarter of mothers in the U.S. have children with different fathers.

About 25% of the children in the U.S. are born to teenagers. Over 80% of those teen mothers are unmarried.

What does that tell you about the state of marriage in this country?
