William Butler Yeats

I read this so long ago and forgot just what a little jewel it is. Thought I'd share it.

Cloths of Heaven

Had I the heavens' embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half-light,

I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.

You lead a very rich life, Bill. I wish I knew more people like you who enjoy fine food, great music, grand art, and wonderful poetry. Most people I know are too lazy to even try to understand those things.

I think to enjoy the finer things in life you need to work at understanding what makes those things as fine as they are. It is a shame most people don't want to work that hard to enrich their lives. They are missing out on so much.
